Alexandra Bray advises on all aspects of EU competition law, including complex multi-jurisdictional mergers, anti-competitive agreements, cartel and abuse of dominance investigations, and licensing negotiations. She has a strong focus on litigation, and has represented major tech companies before the General Court and the Court of Justice of the EU, as well as in international arbitrations. She has developed particular expertise in the rapidly evolving digital regulatory landscape, providing strategic counsel on the Digital Services Act (DSA), the Digital Markets Act (DMA), and EU consumer protection law. Before joining Hogan Lovells, Alexandra gained experience at top international law firms in Paris and worked at the General Court of the European Union for Judge Juraj Schwarcz, deepening her knowledge of EU trademarks, competition, and anti-dumping litigation.

Representative experience

Acting for Google challenging the European Commission's Google Shopping decision on alleged self-preferencing in Google Search before the General Court and the Court of Justice of the EU.

Acting for an online platform challenging the European Commission's designation decision as a very large online platform under the DSA before the General Court and the Court of Justice of the EU.

Acting for a Japanese electronic component manufacturer challenging an EU cartel fine before the General Court.

Advising implementers of standards such as GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSPA and WiFi on licence negotiations and litigation across Europe, as well as in arbitration claims.

Advising a video game platform provider on product design, business models, relations with partners, and all other aspects of its business in Europe.

Advising IBM on the global merger control aspects of its US$34bn acquisition of Red Hat

Securing global antitrust merger approvals for the acquisition of Primetals Technologies by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

Advising a third-party state to the EU in its negotiations to enter into a trade agreement*

Secured Phase I unconditional clearance before the European Commission of the acquisition of OTC medicines businesses by a global specialty pharmaceutical company*
