Her practice emphasis is on development and implementation of compliance strategies, attention to environmental liability and remediation procedures, and the environmental and regulatory aspects of business restructuring; as well as advising on industrial and natural resources exploitation matters.
Sofia has been involved in environmental and administrative litigation, developing legal defense strategies before Mexican regulatory and environmental agencies, in constitutional trials before the Federal Judiciary, as well as in amparo trials (constitutional remedies) against legislation or resolutions that affect the development of the electricity industry.
She understands companies’ needs to adapt to new regulations on single-use-plastic provisions and has advised clients from different industries on such matters.
Sofia has participated in the review, modification, and regularization of food and non-alcoholic beverage labeling in order to comply with new regulations. In addition, she has worked on transactions involving the transition of waste disposal sites to comply with hydrocarbon regulations; obtaining permits for the use of restricted substances; in the environmental feasibility for the design, construction, and operation of a road bridge in Quintana Roo Mexico; and in developing strategies for the implementation of COVID-19 measures during the pandemic for the proper continuation of operations of Mexican companies.
Sofia is also active in pro bono matters such as the implementation of pro-inclusion murals, assistance on trials for obtaining Asylum in the United States, and the compilation of regulations on human trafficking in Mexico.
