With a career spanning three decades, Maria's experience includes directing internal investigations and defending government investigations and prosecutions involving alleged violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute; False Claims Act; Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act; and many other federal and state laws frequently used by government agencies and whistleblowers. Maria's clients recognize the value that her enforcement experience and deep industry knowledge brings to all matters and also regularly engage her to defend against a wide variety of parallel civil litigation ranging from individual personal injury cases to mass tort products liability actions.
Maria's business-minded, practical approach to resolving legal matters is the foundation for her reputation as a trusted adviser to clients of all kinds. She often advises medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers, individual business executives, and health care providers. Additionally, she has experience counseling leaders in the environmental, financial services, and construction industries.
Maria spent many years as a partner with Hogan Lovells' predecessor Boston firm, Collora LLP, serving in administrative and management leadership roles. Currently, she serves as the Managing Partner of the firm's Boston office, leading all efforts to provide clients with the best possible legal services.
Committed to the communities in which she works and lives, Maria dedicates her time in service of the bar as the Co-Chair of the Boston Bar Association's Amicus Committee. She is a founding member of the Women in White Collar Defense Association, Co-Chair of its Boston Chapter, and a member of the Emeritus Board of the Women's Bar Foundation in Massachusetts. A strong advocate for access to justice, Maria has devoted significant time helping indigent clients on a pro bono basis throughout the course of her career.
