Edgar Mata guides clients in securing and protecting their Intellectual Property rights. Edgar uses his experience in intellectual property law to provide practical solutions to complex and important IP matters.

Edgar’s practice spans trademarks, trade names, slogans, industrial designs, plant breeders' rights, and the protection of confidential information and trade secrets. He also deals with copyrights, reserves of rights, and IP defense and enforcement in trials and anti-counterfeiting actions.

He collaborates with international counsel on trademark portfolios and advertising projects. Edgar's clients come from diverse sectors, including consumer goods, beauty, technology, food and beverage, finance, automobile, and sports and entertainment.

Edgar began his IP career at Universal Music Mexico, managing copyrights and complex licenses and agreements. He joined Hogan Lovells in 2011, bringing a wealth of experience to the firm.

Advised one of the world's largest snacks companies in the acquisition of a Mexican leading confectionary company for approx. $1.3 billion USD.

Representation of a major U.S. multinational pharmaceutical company in trademark infringement and unfair competition actions, as well as invalidation actions against famous and well-known trademarks.

Advising an entertainment production company/agency on an advertising project in Mexico, Central and South America.

Managing the anti-counterfeiting program for a U.S. multinational company in connection with batteries.

Advising a global information technology company in its trademark and litigation portfolio.

Representation of a Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer in an invalidation action in Mexico to recover a mark used for one of its emblematic cars.

Advising a British multinational automobile manufacturer in the defense of its trademarks in Mexico protecting the 3D design of one of its most iconic 4x4 vehicle.
