Jimmy McEntee is a trusted litigator and counselor, with an emphasis on the sports industry.

From high-stakes NCAA enforcement actions to novel sports disputes, Jimmy’s clients turn to him for reasoned advice and creative arguments that win cases and achieve results. Jimmy has developed a particular niche as a go-to lawyer for Major League Baseball clubs in salary arbitration hearings, with a 9-4 record as lead counsel. He also has represented several National Hockey League teams in salary arbitration, and is the only practitioner in the last few years to represent both MLB and NHL clubs in arbitration hearings.

Jimmy’s practice extends far beyond salary arbitration. He has extensive experience representing sports, higher education, financial services, entertainment, retail, and healthcare entities with litigation matters as well as sensitive, high-profile investigations, including consumer protection cases, contract disputes, privacy litigation, and government enforcement actions. Jimmy also devotes a significant amount of time to pro bono. He has opposed the use of solitary confinement, advocated for wrongfully convicted individuals, and represented survivors of domestic violence in obtaining civil protection orders against their abusers.

Jimmy regularly speaks on panels relating to sports law. He has served as a judge and panelist at the Villanova University’s Baseball Arbitration Competition, and has been a speaker at sports law events organized by Harvard University, Howard University, Villanova University, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Iowa, among others.

Before joining Hogan Lovells, Jimmy served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Gerald J. Pappert in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Jimmy graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School, during which he worked as a legal intern at Major League Baseball, a law clerk at the National Football League, and a salary-arbitration extern with the Minnesota Twins and Washington Capitals.
