Under Miguel’s leadership Hogan Lovells has continued to grow and to thrive. The firm has achieved record financial results across a wide range of financial metrics including revenue, PPEP, RPL and PPL. Despite challenges including the pandemic and significant economic and socio-political disruption, Zaldivar and his management team have continued to elevate the firm’s position as a global leader that delivers exceptional legal services in highly-regulated sectors, achieving results for clients and society.
The firm is now ranked in the top firms for pro bono, a top firm in the Global Elite Brand Index (Acritas Thomson Reuters), and Hogan Lovells is also listed in the top most innovative firms globally by the Financial Times. The firm continues to be known in the market for its focused sector strategy and talent strategy, and as a great place to work.
As a practicing lawyer Miguel is widely recognized as a leading lawyer in complex international cross border transactions and he has facilitated multi-billion-dollar investments and transactions in highly regulated markets. This continues to be a core practice for Hogan Lovells and a key driver of success and growth. One of only a few Latino leaders at any major law firm, Miguel brings a unique, multi-cultural and strategic approach to complex transactions and investments.
According to the University of Miami School of Law, Miguel “has been a guiding light for clients in major international transactions since graduating from Miami Law”. Miguel’s connections to Miami run deep - he taught the "Project Development and Finance in Latin America" course at the University of Miami School of Law from 2003 to 2010 and in 2009, he received the University of Miami Inter-American Law Review Lawyer of the Americas Award. Prior to this, he was a professor of law at Universidad Católica in Venezuela from 1991 to 1993 and has been a frequent lecturer at legal seminars.
The Deal calls Miguel "a diplomat in a lawyer's clothing" and Hispanic Executive praises his "legal prowess" and "innate abilities" that distinguish him from other lawyers in the field. He has been acknowledged as "a very intelligent attorney and a leading cross-border corporate lawyer" in several industry publications including Chambers, and Legal 500.
Miguel is personally committed to a number of the firm’s philanthropic activities, including leading on the firm’s work with not-for-profit charity Santa Marta group, which is focused on eradicating human trafficking and modern day slavery. This work, as well as his many contributions to DEI, earned Miguel the 2024 Courageous Leader Award from the Council of Urban Professionals.
The creation of a truly diverse and inclusive workplace is also a significant focus for Miguel. He has put in place a plan to foster the development and progression of the firm’s diverse lawyers, and to increase the number of diverse lawyers the firm hires. The firm has also made great progress in working towards its sustainability goals by establishing our baseline, setting emissions reductions targets and implementing changes to reduce emissions.
Before taking up the role of CEO, Miguel served in several leadership positions, including as Regional Managing Partner for the Asia, Pacific, Middle East region, co-leader of our Infrastructure, Energy, Resources and Projects practice, a member of the Board, and co-head of the Latin American practice.
