Hogan Lovells advises Helios Energy Investments on the sale of its stake in Bio Capital to Equitix

Press releases | 24 April 2025

London, 24 April 2025 - Global law firm Hogan Lovells has advised Helios on the sale of its shareholding in Bio Capital to Equitix. The deal completed on 23 April 2025.

In 2018, Helios and Equitix co-founded Bio Capital with the goal of transforming organic waste into clean energy and to lead a fragmented market through consolidation and professionalism. Today, Bio Capital is the UK market leader in anaerobic digestion with a portfolio of plants across the UK. It processes over 500,000 tonnes of organic waste annually and powers around 80,000 British households with renewable energy.

Helios’ founding Managing Partner, Erez Gissin said: “This investment is just one part of Helios’ broader waste management portfolio across the UK and Europe. While this marks a successful exit for us, we remain strongly committed to this sector and continue to seek new investment opportunities in sustainable waste-to-energy businesses. We are confident that Bio Capital will continue to thrive under Equitix’s ownership and wish them continued success.”

Commenting on the transaction, Hogan Lovells partner Sarah Shaw said: “We are delighted to have supported Helios on this landmark transaction, which showcases our ability to combine preeminent M&A capability with deep sector knowledge in the energy transition space.”

The sale marks a milestone for Helios, a financial success for its investors and a demonstration of cross-border collaboration, strategic growth and impact-driven investment.

The Hogan Lovells team that represented Helios was led by London-based partners Sarah Shaw and Hannah Logan, supported by senior associate Taylor Harris, associates India Maddison and Ben Littlewood and trainee solicitor Adam Barratt. Specialist assistance was also provided by counsels Christopher Peacock and Tom Eyre-Brook.
