New York, 11 December 2024 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells was named the 4th Most Innovative Firm in North America at The Financial Times Innovative Lawyer awards, held Monday night in Gotham Hall, New York. Additionally, partner Amy Roma, the firm’s Global Energy Practice Leader, was named the winner in the Practice of Law, Technology category.

Speaking following the recognition, Hogan Lovells Managing Partner for the Americas, Richard Lorenzo, said: “This is an outstanding result in a very competitive award program, highlighting the emphasis we place on innovation in firm strategy and in client work. In a rapidly-changing world, firms with an innovative mindset put themselves in a stronger position to best serve their clients’ needs.”

Based on a broad range of topics, the firm’s fourth place overall reflects a broad range of activity including digital, social responsibility, and people. Notably, the firm received the top score possible in Innovation, only matched by one other firm.

Amy Roma was selected as the winner in the category for Innovative Lawyers in the Technology Sector for her work with micro-nuclear reactor developers to streamline licensing reviews to fundamentally improve their economics. According to The Financial Times, her work furthers “commercially viable licensing that could allow the manufacture and remote deployment of these reactors at scale.” Amy Roma has been recognized by the Financial Times before, including as one of the Top 10 most innovative lawyers in North America in 2019.

The firm was also recognized in three other categories.

Partner and Global Head of M&A Bill Curtin was named “Standout” in Innovation in Energy Transition for his work in creating IONNA, an electric charging station joint venture among eight of the world’s largest car makers. Uniquely, Bill and our Hogan Lovells team represented all eight members of the joint venture.

The creation of “InfoGov,” an AI-powered data management tool was “Highly Commended.” InfoGov, a project headed by partner Dennis Tracey and Head of Legal Engineering Jeremy Burdge, allows clients to better manage vast qualities of data, improving the time and cost involved in effectively managing vast quantities of data.

“The New Riskonomy,” a project driven by data collected from a survey of 1,500 senior business leaders and general counsel, also received “Commended” honors. The New Riskonomy, led by the firm’s Global Head of Litigation, Arbitration, and Employment, Des Hogan, aims to help organizations assess their readiness for risks posed by technological advances.
