2024 was a standout year for our Appellate practice, with six cases argued before the Supreme Court. Over this period, five different advocates from our firm will have argued before the Supreme Court—three of whom are women. This is a rare feat for any law firm. We secured a unanimous Supreme Court victory for Danco Laboratories, maker of Mifeprex® (mifepristone) Tablets. This case was crucial for Danco (as Mifeprex® is its sole product), access to reproductive health care, and to the wider pharmaceutical sector in the U.S. Our team also represented Google in a major appeal involving 21 million consumers and over a billion purchases in the Google Play Store. Partner Jessica Ellsworth, who represented Danco before the U.S. Supreme Court, also made her first Supreme Court argument last year representing Coinbase, Inc. in a case concerning arbitration agreements.
The firm maintained its leading national role in life sciences and health care, achieving notable transactional, regulatory, and litigation successes in the Life Sciences practice area. Highlights include a global team led by Partner Cullen Taylor advising Daiichi Sankyo Company, Limited in its global collaboration with Merck & Co. to develop and commercialize three DXd antibody-drug conjugate candidates for treating solid tumors. The firm’s Life Sciences team also supported the successful defense of Danco Laboratories in federal litigation challenging the FDA's approval of mifepristone. Additionally, the team advised Mind Medicine (MindMed) Inc., a NASDAQ-listed biopharmaceutical company developing novel treatments for brain health disorders, in multiple financings, which underscores the firm's leadership in working with innovative life science companies. The group also helped secure a milestone orthopedic innovation, securing FDA De Novo for Bioretec's RemeOs™ trauma screw, the first and only bioresorbable metal implant approved by the FDA.
Our Government Contracts team secured its second straight Practice Group of the Year recognition by achieving continued success for clients across a wide range of strategic matters. The team continued to rack up victories in numerous bid protest litigations, including successful bid protests for professional services contractor MVM; adversary air pilot training company Tactical Air Support; and engineering contractor InDyne, Inc. Additionally, we advised clients on several of the most prominent mergers and acquisitions relating to government contracts, including SES S.A. on its acquisition of Intelsat S.A., obtaining necessary regulatory approvals, showcasing our ability to support major transactions involving sensitive government contracts.
