Washington, D.C., 27 January 2025 – Global law firm Hogan Lovells is announcing that its Pro Bono team, led by partner Amy Roma and senior counsel emeritus Chris Wolf, supported the Muhammad Ali Center and Farah Pandith, Muhammad Ali Global Peace Laureate, in the development of the groundbreaking 2025 Compassion Report. This study, which measures and analyzes compassion across 12 U.S. cities, draws upon the legacy of the late Muhammad Ali and provides actionable insights to combat polarization, foster understanding, and inspire meaningful change.

The inaugural 2025 Compassion Report, published as part of the Muhammad Ali Index, is a cornerstone of the Muhammad Ali Center’s vision of a just and compassionate world where all people can achieve their greatness. This report aims to develop innovative solutions for measuring, predicting, and cultivating compassionate action, enabling leaders to address both immediate and emerging community challenges. The Muhammad Ali Index also empowers city officials and the public to drive progress toward more inclusive, compassionate communities.

“We were so happy to draw upon our expertise in Internet law to support the Center’s call for moderation and compassion online,” said Chris Wolf.

By examining cultural and behavioral trends across six key sectors—spirituality, self-care, education, healthcare, sports, and politics—the report offers a comprehensive analysis of compassion in America. It introduces the Net Compassion Score (NCS) metric to track and improve compassion nationwide.

The Muhammad Ali Index aims to:

Galvanize Compassion Partnerships: The Index invites a powerful network of public and private "Impact Partners" to adopt, amplify, and harness the report's findings to help inform their policies, procedures, and programs in cities nationwide.

Root Out Polarization and Hate: By measuring and predicting trends related to hate, discrimination, and division, the Muhammad Ali Index provides critical insights into the roots of polarization and identifies compassionate strategies to counteract it.

• Empower Civic and Community Leaders: Through providing vetted research data, the Muhammad Ali Index equips leaders to create impactful and innovative compassionate programs or policies. This data enables leaders to address both immediate and emerging community challenges.

• Inform National and Global Conversations: The Index's findings will challenge and inform national discussions about uniting divided groups and individuals. By identifying areas where compassion is thriving or lacking, it will shape narratives that promote a more empathetic and inclusive society.

The 2025 Compassion Report leverages Muhammad Ali’s enduring legacy to offer key strategies for building empathy, healing divisions, and promoting a more compassionate society. Through its support, Hogan Lovells’ Pro Bono team has played a key role in advancing the conversation on compassion and continues to serve as a trusted partner for social impact initiatives.
