LIDW 2024: Is the price still right? Are firms being priced out of the courts and London seated disputes?

The cost of litigating in the English courts has increased steadily over the last few years. Court data shows that the size of cases heard in London is increasing and that they are taking longer to resolve, resulting in increased costs. This is the case even with sweeping reforms that have recently been implemented by the court and Parliament in respect of efficient costs management, fee arrangements, and funding.

Meanwhile, global general counsel across organisations of varying sizes world-wide report facing increased fee pressures and tightened legal budgets, citing pricing as one of the key issues causing tensions.

Join us on 5 June in our London office to explore in what ways the cost of access to justice is affecting recourse to the English courts and London as a dispute resolution seat. This will be a practical session during which we will also cover the latest updates and best practices from companies, law firms and funders alike.

The panel will be made up of Hogan Lovells partners Akima Paul Lambert and Antonia Croke, Sapan Gupta, the Group General Counsel for Arcelor Mittal, Ben Giaretta, a member of the Advisory Board of London Chamber of Arbitration and Mediation (LCAM), and Ayse Yazir, the Global Head of Origination for Bench Walk Advisors.

Akima Paul Lambert is also a member of LCAM’s Advisory Board.
