Tom is experienced in advising clients in relation to projects based in Europe, Africa and Asia in the conventional and nuclear power, offshore wind, oil and gas, commercial space flight, defence, and transport industries. He has also acted in a number of commercial disputes in the pharmaceutical and telecommunications sectors. Legal 500 commends Tom as "truly outstanding" and "highly experienced in big ticket work".
Tom combines his disputes practice with advisory work, supporting businesses to identify and manage risk throughout the entire life cycle of their projects. He also provides training on legal issues in the construction and engineering sector, and is a regular speaker at conferences and events, including at the ICC in Africa, Overseas Contractors Association of Japan, Inc. (OCAJI) in Tokyo and the Turkish Contractors Association in Ankara. Tom's pro bono practice includes representing claimants in a number of constitutional challenges that seek to decriminalise homosexuality in the Caribbean.
Tom has experience of conducting arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA, LMAA and UNCITRAL rules, and has acted in cases brought before the Commercial Court and the Technology and Construction Court in London, the Courts of several European jurisdictions and before the High Court of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Acting for an EPCM contractor in ICC arbitration proceedings concerning some 100+ claims and counterclaims relating to the design, construction and CM of a petrochemical plant in the Middle East.
Acting for an EPC contractor in relation to various disputes arising from the construction of a conventional power plant in the Netherlands.
Representing an EPC Contractor in an LCIA arbitration concerning allegations of defective work, delay and design liabilities arising from a 140 turbine offshore wind project in UK territorial waters.
Advising a heavy industries company on disputes arising from the supply and installation of new port crane infrastructure to a project in Turkey.
