Listed as a Key Lawyer for sanctions and international trade in 2022 and 2023 in the Legal 500, Kate is a senior associate in our International Trade and Investment team based in London. With an in-house background, Kate excels at providing clear, commericial and strategic advice, working with clients to both protect their position and acheive their commercial goals.

Kate is at the forefront of matters of sanctions, export control, customs, trade compliance and trade agreements, covering both UK and Australian law. Kate covers a wide range of sectors, but has a particular focus on areospace and defence, energy, manufacturing, finance and life sciences. Kate's experience includes being seconded to BP as international trade regulatory counsel during the Russia crisis. 

Kate also regularly guides our clients through questions of national security, both in Australia and the UK, including compliance with foreign investment screening regimes.

Kate also has extensive compliance experience in AML and ABC matters such as designing and carrying out risk assessments, designing and implementing policy programs and procedures, providing training, carrying out investigations and liaising with regulators, advisory work and transactional support.

Advising various multinational civil nuclear companies on their UK sanctions and export control compliance

Advising a nuclear safety organisation on their UK sanctions and export control compliance 

Assisting various aerospace and defence manufacturers and suppliers on sanctions and export control compliance, and questions regarding national security laws 

Advising multiple multinational pharmaceutical companies on UK and Australian sanctions compliance 

Advising various aerospace and defence companies on their filing obligations under the National Security and Investment Act, including carrying out in-depth national security assessments. 

Advised multiple global satellite communications companies on its filing obligations under the National Security and Investment Act 

Advised a U.S. national security and intelligence company on its filing obligations under the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act 1975 (Australia)

Advised an international defence manufacturer on its filing obligations under the National Security and Investment Act 

*Advised a national government on trade agreement compliance on mulitple newly announced economic support deals 

*Acted as international trade counsel for an oil major during the Russia crisis, while on secondment

*Carried out AML and ABC investigations and advising on reporting issues across manufacturing, life sciences and energy clients

*Advised an engine manufacturer on export control, including dual-use and classification questions, and issues around potential military end-use

*Advised a plant machinery manufacturer on questions of potential WMD end-use concerns

Advising an international testing and certification company on UK and Australian sanctions compliance 

Provide ongoing multi-jurisdictional sanctions compliance advice to mulitple global financial institutions 

Obtained a No Further Action outcome after making a voluntary disclosure to OFSI on behalf of a financial services company in relation to potential UK sanctions breaches
