Kevin Lloyd is a commercial litigator, who is widely recognised as a leader in his field. Kevin focuses on complex litigation, across a full range of sectors, including financial services, and multinational corporations. Clients come to him to litigate high-profile ‘bet-the-company' disputes, where there are often billions at stake. 

Kevin is celebrated in Legal 500’s Commercial Litigation: Premium Hall of Fame and is ranked band one in Chambers’ Commercial and Corporate Litigation in London category.

His broad practice includes company, accounting, financing, banking, insolvency, contractual, tortious, shareholder, breach of contract and fiduciary disputes. Prior to joining Hogan Lovells Kevin led litigation teams and was a Partner at two leading international firms in London. Before that he spent several years in Sydney becoming one of the most sought after litigation partners in Australia acting on a large range of matters. Over the years, Kevin has successfully acted for leading financial institutions and accounting firms, as well as representing clients in large corporate collapses. He has also participated in over 150 mediations and has negotiated settlements in a very large proportion of these.

Representative experience

Representing BAT in a range of matters including contested indemnification liabilities concerning Fox and Kalamazoo Rivers and English High Court proceedings re the recovery of around $1bn dividends.

Representing a Swiss headquartered oil trading company in the English High Court in defence of complex contractual claims of $2billion.*

Representing BTI/BAT before the Supreme Court in a market-leading case concerning the nature of directors duties when a company has a real, not remote, prospect of insolvency.

Advised and represented the Directors of MG Rover in a DTI investigation (which ran for around 4 years) and the defence of significant High Court claims against them.*

Represented Administrators of TXU and Nortel in complex cross-border litigation re the distribution of the estates and also pursuing claims against former directors in significant insolvencies.*

Represented Citigroup as lead syndicate member in the $2.1 billion Fairfax litigation.*

Represented Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce as lead manager in claims of over £300 million against it in the High Court by Natixis arising out of the failed Box Clever securitisation.*

Represented PWC in the successful defence of multi-billion dollar claims regarding the audits of Beneficial Finance (a wholly owned subsidiary of State Bank of South Australia).*

Represented Standard Chartered Bank in complex multi-billion dollar litigation concerning the collapse of the Spedley Group.*

Represented Patrick McKillen in the Misland litigation concerning the joint venture.*

Represented Deloitte in defence of large audit claims following the collapse of Adsteam Group.*

Acting for Tatneft in complex litigation with Kolomoisky and Bogolyubov.

Represented Arthur Andersen in the successful defence of multibillion dollar claims regarding the audit of Bond Group.*

Represented Ernst & Young as Administrators of TXU, a failed energy group, which included a major corporate collapse and cross-border litigation lasting several years.*

Acting as lead lawyer adviser for EY as administrators of the Nortel Group in complex cross border litigation and negotiations over several years concerning allocation of Nortel estates worldwide.
