The new right to neonatal care leave provides support for parents of babies born on or after 6 April, allowing them time off if their newborns need neonatal care. In this instalment of our Employment Bite series, London employment lawyers Anvita Sharma and Jo Broadbent discuss this entitlement, which grants qualifying employees a week of neonatal care leave for every week their baby spends in neonatal care, provided it begins within 28 days of birth. Employees can take up to 12 weeks’ leave in total, with all leave required to be taken within 68 weeks of the child’s birth.
